We asked 100 artists to paint a 12x12 canvas inspired by the Genesee Valley.
This is what they painted:
Artist ages spanned generations.
Artists were given only two requirements:
1) Paint something inspired by the Genesee Valley of New York State
2) Use our provided 12" x 12" canvas
Everything else was left to each artist to decide.
Scenes captured ranged in geography from the headwaters to the river's outlet into Lake Ontario.
The range of techniques and colors helps capture the beautiful diversity found within the Genesee Valley.
All four seasons were represented in the project.
All paintings were original and created just for this project.
The purpose of this project was to recognize the beauty and diversity of the Genesee Valley.
Funds raised through sales of art supported Genesee Valley Conservancy's local conservation efforts.
One artist (building below) used soils from the Genesee Valley to provide the color to his painting.
While some subjects were repeated (three cow paintings below), all are unique and wonderful interpretations of the Genesee Valley.
Paintings were hung at the Silver Lake Brewing Project in the fall.
